ACI: Tension in the Chamber over La Russa Jr.'s election, the opposition urges: "The government must explain."

Tensions are high in the Chamber of Deputies between the opposition, particularly the Five Star Movement, and the majority.

The issue at stake is the election of the son of the President of the Senate , Geronimo La Russa, as president of the ACI (Italian Automobile Club of Milan), who has served as president since 2028. Five Star Movement, Democratic Party, and AVS are demanding information from the government, albeit focusing on different motivations.

For the Five Star Movement, it is "outrageous" that "the son of the second highest office in the state sits in a state institution with an annual allowance of 230 thousand euros , while there are young people who have to work as waiters to pay for university... this is your meritocracy", thundered the M5S group leader Riccardo Ricciardi in the Chamber.

The Democratic Party is also requesting a government report, but to understand the "anomaly in the rules" amended by Parliament itself. The AVS (Italian Social Security Administration) also supports this request.

The FdI responded clearly: "There's something called democracy, and it must be respected , and the results of the vote must be respected," as La Russa Jr. was elected with 78% of the vote . Then, turning to the Five Star Movement, Salvatore Caiata said: "But what are we talking about, meritocracy, when you" have the "conflict of interest of the former mayor of Turin Appendino?" Tempers flared, and loud voices and shouts resounded in the chamber.

The Automobile Club of Italy Assembly yesterday elected Geronimo La Russa as the 19th president of the ACI for the four-year period 2025-2028.

"The motorists' association," the ACI explained in a statement, "returned to elect its leader at the polls with a larger majority than the last time it had run for office, in 2012, when multiple candidates competed: La Russa, in fact, obtained over 78% of the 2,112 votes representing all eligible voters."

Born in Milan on April 2, 1980, Geronimo La Russa , married with two daughters, is a lawyer , president of the Automobile Club of Milan , and has previously served as vice president of the Automobile Club of Italy. He is one of the founders of ACI Storico and a keen enthusiast of motorsports and racing. "It is a great honor for me," La Russa stated, "to have been elected to lead the ACI, an institution that represents a legacy for the country, its citizens, its regions, and the world of sport. This achievement is the fruit of shared work, which began a long time ago and looks to the future. I will work with a spirit of service, listening, and determination, respecting every sensibility and with a competent and passionate team."
